Southern success for Boddingtons

Award-winning plastics injection moulding manufacturer, Boddingtons, enjoyed another successful exhibiting presence at Southern Manufacturing 2018.

The three days of the show in the exhibition’s new home saw the company fielding enquiries and orders from new and existing customers, OEM businesses, inventors and product designers and developers.

Business development manager Tony Ayley said that ‘the show continues to prove its worth to us in terms of market exposure and continual contact with interested parties. One company has seen us here over three successive years and we are now preparing to take in tooling from them later this year. Good results often take time.’

Ayley adds that ‘from my perspective it was good to talk to some of the other moulders at the exhibition, all of whom seemed pretty happy that there were a few of us there. To prospective buyers it must make good sense to have a selection of moulders at the exhibition, optimising the opportunities for business conversations.’

Boddingtons sales manager Chris Philpott also attended for the three show days. He said that ‘it’s not often you are able to meet so many like-minded people in a manufacturing environment, but Southern Manufacturing certainly ticks that box.’

Philpott notes that ‘show footfall was very good, with the Boddingtons stand having a prominent position within the hall – enabling visits and quotations for piece parts immediately after the exhibition ended.’

Philpott said that ‘the variation in manufacturing needs and customer requirements attracted some great conversation, from over-moulding of PCB’s through to support for new projects and large tool transfers.

One particular client worried about the potential impact with Brexit was looking to move over €1m of order book to UK sources. Other clients discussed the need to move components back from China. The increasing costs of shipping and lengthening lead times are having a detrimental effect on the supply chain Re-shoring manufacture is becoming ever more popular, with the benefit of having parts on time and in full.’

The next stop for the Boddingtons sales and marketing team will be the MedTech Innovation (MTI) Exhibition in Coventry April 25-26, 2018.
